In casa mia non c’è la televisione. Nel senso che da quando è arrivato il digitale terrestre, nella mia vita adulta non ho mai guardato moltissima tv, ma da quando è arrivato il digitale terrestre intorno al, che anno era?, intorno al 2010, son stato molto attento a non comprare un decoder e ho detto felicemente addio ai programmi televisivi. Perché la televisione è il male puro, me ne accorgo tutte le volte che vado a trovare i miei genitori, che mi pianto come un’ebete a guardare per ore dei programmi con gente che restaura case o che svuota i garage, o quando capito in un bar o una birreria con la televisione accesa appesa al muro, ci bado a come attira la mia attenzione mentre invece vorrei pensare ad altro. Comunque ho sempre avuto una grande passione per il cinema, ho una discreta collezione di dvd, ho fatto una fatica boia per abituarmi all’idea di guardare le serie televisive e i film sul computer, in casa mia non c’è la televisione almeno dal 2010. Ma una televisione ce l’ho. Ho anche il rudere di un’antenna televisiva sul tetto della casa, sono anni che dico che devo tirarla giù, ma è fissata in un modo che non basta salire sul tetto, che non sarebbe un problema, ma per togliere anche i cavi che la tengono in piedi senza ammazzarmi sicuramente dovrei noleggiare un camion cesta. Anche nelle camere degli ospiti non c’è la televisione. Recentemente, dopo aver prenotato, un signore di una certa età mi ha anche telefonato, mi ha detto Senta stavo riguardando le foto della camera, ma davvero non c’è la televisione? Eh no, niente televisione in questa casa. Ah. E ha messo giù.
A parte che di solito la gente che arriva qui è molto felice di non avere la televisione in camera, i miei ospiti possono leggere dei libri, possono anche prenderli dalla mia libreria, possono attaccarsi al wi fi col loro computer e guardare tutto quello che vogliono e, sto per dire una cosa da vecchio, se hanno un computer che legge i dvd possono prenderne tranquillamente uno dei miei.
Perché in effetti, nel corso degli ultimi anni, il formato dvd è velocemente invecchiato. Credo che entro poco tempo diventerà ufficialmente modernariato.
Comunque poi quel signore che ha prenotato la camera è arrivato e quando è passato dal soggiorno ha detto Eh ma qui c’è una televisione!
No, gli ho detto, quella non è una televisione, ma un monitor al plasma da 32 pollici ed è collegato solo al lettore dvd.
Giusto per essere specifici, voi comprate le televisioni a led da 60 pollici, magari voi non ve ne accorgete ma hanno una qualità pessima. L’unica roba che poteva pareggiare la qualità del vecchio tubo catodico erano le televisioni al plasma, ma erano costose da produrre, io ho questo vecchio monitor al plasma me lo tengo stretto e lo uso per guardare i dvd.
E col fatto che lo uso pochissimo, davvero raramente, sta in un angolo del soggiorno su un mobile nero a rotelle. E questo mobile a rotelle di legno verniciato di nero era un mobile che avevo fatto per la casa dove abitavo prima, quando ho finito di restaurare questa casa e mi son trasferito, c’era da piazzare il monitor per i dvd, ho usato questo mobile che avevo già, anche se non ci stava benissimo, ho pensato Provvisoriamente uso questo, poi appena ho un attimo lo sostituirò con una roba un po’ più carina.
E niente, son passati cinque anni.

Because television is pure evil, I realize it every time I go to visit my parents, I annihilate myself watching programs with people restoring houses or emptying garages, or when I get into a bar or a brewery with the television hanging on the wall, I can feel how it attracts my attention while I would like to think of something else instead. However, I’ve always had a great passion for cinema, I have a decent collection of DVDs, I had a damned hard time getting used to the idea of watching TV series and movies on my laptop, there hasn’t been a TV show in my house since at least 2010 but, still, I have a television. I also have the ruins of a television aerial on the roof of the house, I’ve been saying for years that I have to take it down, but it’s fixed in such a way that it’s not enough to climb onto the roof, which wouldn’t be a problem, but to remove the cables holding the antenna up without killing me I should definitely also rent a basket-truck. There is also no television in the guest rooms. Recently, after booking a room, a gentleman of a certain age also phoned me, he said Good morning, I was looking at the photos of the room, is there really no television? No, sorry, no televisions in this house. Oh. And he put it down the phone.
Apart from the fact that usually my guests are very happy not to have television in their room, here my guests can read books, they can also take my books from my library, they can connect to the wi-fi with their computer and watch everything they want and, I’m about to say something very old and boomer, if they have a computer that still reads dvds, they can easily borrow one of mine.
Because in fact, over the last few years, the DVD format has quickly aged. I believe that within a short time it will officially become modern art.
Anyway, that gentleman who booked the room arrived and when he passed by the living room he said Hey, but here there is a television!
No, I told him, that’s not a television, but a 32 inch plasma monitor and it’s only connected to the dvd player.
Just to be specific, you buy 60-inch LED televisions, and you may not notice it but they have terrible quality. The only stuff that could match the quality of the old CRT are plasma televisions, but they were expensive to produce, I have this old plasma monitor and I use it to watch just DVDs.
And for the fact that I use it very little, very rarely, it sits in a corner of the living room on a piece of furniture made of black painted wooden boards on wheels. And this black painted wooden furniture on wheels was a piece of furniture that I had made for the house where I used to live before. When I finished the restoring work in this house and I moved in, I had to place this monitor for the DVDs, I used this mobile I already had, even if it didn’t fit very well with the ambience, I thought: I’ll use this temporarily, then as soon as I have a moment I’ll replace it with something nicer.
And nothing, it’s been five years.
